Eating out

Appledore has a wealth of pubs, restaurants and cafes. The following are places we have visited and would be happy to recommend for an evening meal. Booking advised

Pubs

The Seagate: on the Quay, a good family pub serving excellent food either in the restaurant or bar with a large outdoor eating and drinking area. Dogs welcome in the bar

The Royal George: on Irsha St, at the more “gastro’ end of the gastro-pub market this is more of a restaurant than a pub (though you can go just for a drink), and the food is delicious! There are great views over the estuary so try to book a window table if you can. Dogs welcome downstairs

The Beaver: Just opposite the Royal George, this serves traditional pub food. The same view with an outside drinking area and even a small crazy golf course! Dogs welcome in the bar

Restaurants

Flame Factory: On the Quay, this serves very good pizzas, burgers steaks and salads and offers a takeaway service. Dogs welcome

The Yard: Tucked away in Market Street and a stones-throw from Amber Cottage, this offers excellent tapas-style food perfect for sharing. Dogs welcome

The Boathouse: Across the estuary, on the seafront in Instow, this lovely fish restaurant has an upstairs terrace commanding beautiful views over the estuary. The perfect place for an evening meal, it is also open during the day. Dogs welcome
